Maintain Individual Freedom
As I think of what that means and where we, as Americans, got those freedoms, I refer first to our founding documents which framed our rights and freedoms 244 years ago. The Declaration of Independence states, “ We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” To further understand what those freedoms are, we look at the Amendments to our Constitution, commonly known as the Bill of Rights. Specifically, I see we are losing our freedom of speech, religion, and the right to peaceably assemble. Freedom of speech gives us the right to communicate opinions and ideas without fear of retaliation, censorship or legal sanction. That is being severely hampered on college campuses, schools, the press and social media. The following quote is very sobering, “If our freedom of speech is taken away, then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter”, by George Washington. We need to stand up for our rights and freedoms, or they will be taken from us.

2/4/2021 Since expanding on this priority during my campaign, we now have a new administration and if you are reading this and being honest with yourself, you will agree that the concerns I addressed above are now expanding at lightening speed thanks to the executive orders being signed daily in Washington. I wonder, what will the next generation say about us? Can we keep the individual freedoms we have enjoyed?
